Determine how much of a water line there is. If there is no water line, or if only the basics are there -- like a line valve coming off the pipe -- then you'll need to install the entire water line. Use a water line installation kit, available at any hardware store.
The kit will give you all the valves and hardware needed to run a line up to the point where the PVC pipe is. You can choose either plastic pipe or copper pipe, whichever one you're more comfortable working with. Once the pipe is run up to the PVC connector, or if the majority of the water line is already in place, you can proceed.
Snip off a bit of the plastic pipe with scissors and take it to a hardware store to gauge the correct size when buying the fitting. The barb on the end of the PVC fitting must fit snugly inside of the snippet of plastic pipe. Coat the inside of the PVC pipe and the outside of the fitting with the cement, insert and press them together. Insert the barbed end of the fitting into the plastic pipe, then clamp it securely with a hose clamp and a screwdriver.
Connect a copper waterline pipe to PVC using a plastic pipe and a barbed fitting.
Select a small piece of plastic pipe that will push over the copper water line and fit snugly. Buy the selected items together This item: What other items do customers buy after viewing this item? Customers also shopped for. Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1.

While I am experienced in home remodeling, I had never tackled plumbing. The idea of something leaking is terrifying. No lie, that was the hardest part. I have every intention of letting my 4 year old do the next one. Absolute must buy if you are tackling plumbing yourself. I just replaced two bathroom faucets. The shut off valves were in major need of replacing along with the hoses that were there. I spent the most time removing the old compression sleeve used the sleeve puller that you can buy from HD or Lowes from the copper pipes. Then the pipes needed to clean.
Then just push the new shutoff valves on. Last edited by a moderator: Gary Swart , Jun 3, Oct 20, Location: Is it really PVC plumbing in the house?
Instead use a solderless tee valve that quick connects 1/2” copper, PEX, CPVC, polybutylene, to a 1/4” line to the ice maker. Opt for a braided. I will soon be taking delivery of a fridge with ice maker. near future, but the saddle valve on a 1/2" cpvc line is working fine for the time being.
Not supposed to use PVC in a residence. To hook up the ice maker you would cut the pipe and install a tee with a valve off it for the ice maker line.
There are other tubing materials. Your choice; your risk. Bob NH , Jun 3, Correction it is cpvc, and thankyou for your help. Feb 11, Location:
